Entertainment
If you are fond of
musical instruments,
you will find
in Angola a large choice of instruments such as kis-
sanges, rattles, reco-recos, whistles, flutes, violins
and other cord instruments.
The best place to purchase these goods is “Futungo
Market” in
Benfica
just south of Luanda, km 17.
A variety of African arts are displayed at this tradi-
tional open air market, such as paintings, ivory, carv-
ings, malachite, bronze, and hand-woven baskets.
Don’t be ashamed to bargain.
It is required that all Angolan crafts be certified with
a stamp before leaving the country when they are
hand-carried. The stores in town will do this for you,
but if you’ve bought items in a market or on the
street you will need to go to the government agency
on Rua Major Kanhangulo (opposite from UNIAO
and Casa Inglesa). Stamps are also available in the
market to buy separately, but they may charge you
a little bit more.
