Ruins with historical interest include Forte de Silva
Porto, Forte de Munhango, Forte de N’Harea, Ca-
deia da ex-Colonia Penal do Kapolo, a former prison
built in 1958.
NATURE AND WILDLIFE
There are a good number of fluvial beaches formed
by the numerous rivers such as Kwanza, the most
important of Angola and which can be found in Bié.
Such an environment is very propicious to nautical
activities.
Main sites include:
• Praia Verde in Kunhinga
• Praia Azul in Andulo
• Island of Kutato
• Luando waterfalls river in Kukema
• Thermal waters of Chitocota
• Mutumbo waterfalls in Chitembo
• Lagoon of Kambadua, formed by an affluent of
Kakuito River, it is 3km long, fishing spot
• Cataracts of Wongo on Ndumula river, 18 km north
of Kuito
Reserva Florestal do Luango
is known for hosting
Amazing Luanda by night
a large variety of birds as well as the Palanca Negra
Gigante.
Reserva Florestal do Umpulo
covers an area of
4,500 km2. It is limited to the north by the Cunene
river, to the east and south by the Chimbandianga
river, to west by the Kwanza river and has a very
diversified variety of exotic species.
