The
Year 2000 Problem

Beyond all these achievements, Ghana is making tremendous efforts to avert the year 2000 problem (Y2K) or millennium bug.
"The main task is to draw wide-scale attention to the issue and increase the awareness of the depth of the problem" explained Commander P.M.G Griffiths, Deputy Minister of Communications , who is in charge of the Y2K project office.
| Ghana adopted a national strategy, a mix of centralized and decentralized strategy was employed at different stages of the Y2K solution cycle. A national survey to take inventory of both computer information systems and embedded systems was conducted to allow for repairs of non-compliant systems.
The Y2K project office was tasked to prepare a National Action Plan in addition to assisting all government establishments to set up Y2K teams. Additionally, it prepared a national awareness strategy and program and implemented an awareness campaign.
The government recognizing the seriousness of the millennium bug set up the Y2K office to warn the public sector businesses, other organizations and individuals on the ramifications of the problem in computer systems and equipment.
