Historically German and Austrian Investors (also Czech and Hungarian) has always had leading position in the Slovak Republic. After the splitting the Austrian Monarchy during the period 1918-1938 and also during the period of former Slovak State (1938-1945) the situation was the same. Today after 40 years of communism period the situation is similar. The old relations were born again. (Financial sector - f.ex. Allianz, Die Erste and industry, f.ex. Volkswagen). Anglo-Saxon investors have been focused on strategic cases as U.S. Steel and Slovnaft or specific market segments as for example is Tesco.
