OUR COMPANY |
Doprastav Bratislava, one of the traditional construction companies in Slovakia established in 1953 is engaged in the construction of motorways, roads, bridges and infrastructure systems. Along with these activities, it is building a Tesco store in Zekina, buildings for Sladovne Hurbanovo a Slovak mail producer and facilities for Volkswagen.
STRATEGY |
Doprastav wants to focus more on the construction of retail chains, the reconstruction of prefabs and old buildings and to expand its activities in building tunnels and underground structures. The company has been involved in several projects abroad from the Middle East, North Africa, Czech Republic and Germany. Foreign orders for Doprastav represented 5% in 2001.
A BRIEF HISTORY |
The state owned Doprastav Bratislava was transformed into a joint stock company on January 1st 1994. Since its foundation in 1953, Doprastav .p. underwent several stages of transformation of its structures and production program. As time progressed, the company developed the capacity to execute large capital construction projects, which was made possible by the creation of its own research and development laboratory, improved machinery and the utilization of new techniques and technology.

1953 - Establishment of national enterprise Doprastav with headquarters in Bratislava; focused on transport constructions.
1958 - Incorporation of Vodstav enterprise staff
into Doprastav; diversification of activities in
the field of water treatment plants and water constructions. |
1961 - Establishment of undertaking Zvolen.
1962 - Doprastav was the 1st company in Slovakia to use prefabricated pre-stressed concrete bridge elements.
1965 - Establishment of specialized bitumen undertaking in Bratislava.
1967 - Establishment of specialized bridge undertaking in Bratislava.
1969 - Beginning of motorway network construction.
1974 - The realization of important constructions in the Czech Republic & abroad.
1988 - Doprastav was established as a state owned enterprise.
1994 - Doprastav became a joint-stock company.
1998 - Obtained "Quality Management" certificate ISO 9002 as the 1st Slovak company in the field of engineering.
2000 - Doprastav bought a majority stake in Metrostav this resulted in the 2nd largest construction grouping in the former Czech Republic.
2001 - Clearstream banking a German firm acquired a 24% stake in Doprastav

Doprastav specializes in the design and construction of national roads, bridges and motorways, airports and is also involved in civil engineering and the construction of waterworks and environmental construction.
DOPRASTAV & JOINT VENTURES |
At the beginning of 2001 Clearstream banking, a German firm acquired a 24% stake in Doprastav. Doprastav held interest in 9 firms in the late 2000. Its output reached SKK 5.66 billion in 2001. Doprastav ranks second among Slovak construction firms after Hydrostav. Doprastav controls the Czech Metrostav Company, the majority stake in Metrostav.
COMPANY ANALYSIS |
Dorprastav holds have 8% of the Slovak construction industry, the company saw its gross profit slide by 34.3 pct to SKK 141.76m at the end of September last year and reported financial investments of SKK 459.64m in January-September 2001. Doprastav planned a pre tax profit of SKK 150 million in 2001 a y/y increase by more than 31 percent if it succeeds. The Company's output should be at SKK 6million SKK, which would represent an increase of SKK 338 million. 2002 company's output should stand at about SKK 7.5 billion. The number of employee's should remain at 2750 (figure in 2001) while the average monthly wage is expected to jump from 15,518 SKK (2001) to 17,054 SKK in 2002.
