WHITEWATER RAFTING - AWASH RIVER

Book yourself for a great weekend of rafting, camping, and wildlife viewing in Awash National Park. (207km from A.A.- Approx. 3 ½ - 4 hrs driving)

Day 1: Meeting point at the Zingero campsite ( Awash National Park) where we're going to be there from 3 pm.

Day 2: Wake up call at the crack of dawn for breakfast. Last quick arrangements and then walk down to the river. The trip starts at the base of Awash Falls, near the Park HAfter a safety talk and paddling practice in the pool below the falls, we head downstream, soon encountering some spirited rapids, interspersed with quieter sections. The morning continues with more and bigger rapids: Tewodros' Thump, Haile Selassie 1st rapid which we will scout before running (good opportunity for photos), and various drops and chutes as yet unnamed. A calm stretch before the Arba Dima confluence provides a chance to bring out the binoculars for Colobus monkeys, Goliath herons and Fish eagles. After a lunch stop at a shady riverside shelf, we're back on the river for more rapids. A stop at a sacred Hot Springs shaded by acacias and tamarinds, and a quiet passage though a narrow gorge of polished volcanic basalt. One longer rapid at the Hulo tributary, a few more riffles, and then we get to takeout, from where it's a 20-minute walk up to Buffet D'Aouache and cold beers. A beautiful drive back to the Park campsite at sundown. Then a shower and a gourmet meal complete a great day. After dinner, relax at the bond fire and we guarantee you'll sleep well for sure!
Day 3: Leisurely wake-up and big breakfast. After that, you're free to pick up a park scout and visit the Northern hot springs, or, head back to Addis.

N.B. The Awash River trip is a participatory adventure ( everyone paddles).
