MISSION |
Turkish Airlines' mission, as the flag carrier of
Turkey, is to provide air transportation services
in order to:
o Pioneer the country's attempts to penetrate world
markets,
o Connect all regions with a certain passenger potential
within Turkey,
o Serve as a bridge between the Turkish Republics
of Central Asia, the Balkans, the Middle and Far
East, the Americas and Europe,
o Act as a leading technical service provider for
the aviation industry.
HISTORY |
20.05.1933 - Turkish Airlines was founded under
law no. 2186 in ANKARA under the name"STATE
AIRLINES ADMINISTRATION" as a department of
Ministry of Defence.
1935 - The administration was turned over to Ministry
of Public Works.
1938 - The name was changed to "General Directorate
of State Airlines" and was operated under Ministry
of Transportation.
1945 - DC-3 aircraft joined our fleet.
1947 - First international flight was Ankara-Istanbul-Athens.
01.03.1956 - TK was reorganised and operated under
a special legislation and renamed Türk Hava
Yollari A.O. with a capital of 60 MILLION TL.
1958-1960 - F-27 anf VISCOUNT aircraft joined our
fleet.
1967- First DC-9 jet aircraft joined our fleet and
the jet age started.
1971- B-707 aircraft leased and joined our fleet.
1973 - F-27 aircraft replaced with F-28 aircraft
. DC-10 aircraft joined our fleet.
1974 - B-727 aircraft joined our fleet.
1984 - The company was reclassified as a "STATE
ECONOMIC ENTERPRISE" and the capital was raised
to 60 BILLION TL.
1985 - AIRBUS 310 aircraft joined our fleet.
1986 - Fareast flights started with the addition
of the SINGAPORE route to our flight network.
1987 - The capital was raised to 150 BILLION TL
in July.
1988 - New York route via Brussels was added to
our flight network in July.
1990 - The capital was raised to 700 BILLION TL
in March. TK was included within the scope of the
privatisation in September.
1991 - B-737 aircraft our fleet. Registered capital
was raised to 2 TRILLION TL in September.
1992 - Registered capital was raised to 2.5 TRILLION
TL in December.
1993 - A-340-300 aircraft joined our fleet in July.
RJ-100 aircraft joined our fleet in July. First
class service started on A-340-300 aircraft in August.
THT (Turkish Air Transportation) incorporated company
merged with Turkish Airlines in September.
1994 - Issued capital was raised to 6 TRILLION TL
in January. Direct New York flights started in July.
3rd A-340-300 aircraft joined our fleet in July.
DC-9 aircraft disposed of from our fleet in September.
Registered capital was raised to 6 TRILLION TL in
November.
1995 - First Class service started on A-310-318
aircraft in February. Registered capital was raised
to 10 TRILLION TL in March. 3 B-727-200 aircraft
were converted to cargo aircraft in July, September
and November.
1996 - RJ-70 aircraft joined our fleet. 4 B-727-200
aircraft disposed of from our fleet in April. 4th
A-340-300 aircraft joined our fleet. Capital was
raised to 10 TRILLION TL in May. Registered capital
was raised to 50 TRILLION TL in December.
1997 - 5th A-340-300 aircraft joined our fleet.
Block space agreement signed on 31st September with
Japan Airlines for Istanbul-Osaka-Istanbul route.
1998 - Block space agreement signed with Austrian
Airlines for the flights from Istanbul, Ankara,
Izmir to Vienna in March. On March 30th Turkish
Airlines became a member of "The Qualiflyer
Group". Paid capital was raised to 30 TRILLION
TL in June. Block space agreement signed with Swissair
for the flights from Istanbul to Zurich, Geneva
and Basel, from Izmir to Zurich in August. Block
space agreement signed with Croatian Airlines on
Istanbul-Zagreb-Istanbul route in September. Block
space agreement signed with Japan Airlines on Istanbul-Tokyo-Istanbul
route in November. First 6 of 26 new generation
B-737-800 aircraft joined our fleet in November.
1999 - 9 B737-800 aircraft joined our fleet. Turkish
Airlines opened its second maintenance center more
than doubling its hangar capacity. No smoking policy
is applied to all our flights in April. 6th A340-300
aircraft joined our fleet. Code share agreement
signed with Malaysian Airlines on Istanbul-Kuala
Lumpur-Istanbul route in September. Registered capital
was raised to 175 TRILLION TL in November.
2000 - 7 B-737-800 aircraft joined our fleet. Code
share agreement with Austrian Airlines ended in
March. 7th A340-300 aircraft joined our fleet in
April. Block space agreement signed with Asiana
Airlines on Istanbul-Seoul-Istanbul route in First
commercial flight to Sydney was operated for the
Olympic Games in September. Code share flights started
in October to 10 domestic destinations in the USA
via New York, Miami and Chicago as a result of the
agreement signed with American Airlines at the end
of February. New Frequent Flyer Program "Miles&Miles"
was launched in October. Code share agreement with
Malaysian Airlines ended in October. Beginning from
October 29th.
* Block space agreement with Cathay Pacific Airlines
on Istanbul-Hong Kong-Istanbul route
* Code share agreement with LOT Polish Airlines
on Istanbul-Warsaw-Istanbul route
* Code share agreement with Czech Airlines on Istanbul-Prague-Istanbul
route .
2001 - 2 B737-800 aircraft joined our fleet. 6 A-310-200
aircraft sold to Iran Air. Code Share agreement
with Sunexpress signed on Antalya-Frankfurt-Antalya
route.
Ankara flights started from Sabiha Gokcen Airport
since January.
Reservation Call Center (444 0 THY / 444 0 849)
service started.
2002 - 2 B737-800 aircraft joined our fleet. Pristina
flights started on 15th April.

Thanks to the cargo
automation system first class communication is provided
for yourself, your consignee, the agencies and the

TK Cargo offers you a variety of services designed
to meet your shipping needs and to fulfill your
individual transport requirements. Experience, care
and know-how enable TK Cargo to correctly transport
every type of cargo ranging from small packages
to livestock, perishable foods, textile products,
flowers, leather, spare parts, equipment and precious
metals. Whatever you import or export, you may simply
deliver and collect your shipment within the scheduled
time frames and leave the rest to TK. You do not
have to deal with anything else for TK guarantees
that all types and sizes of shipments are delivered
to the destined point on time; thus ensuring that
people worldwide obtain the goods they need at the
right place, at the right time.
Currently on domestic flights TK Cargo service is
provided with passenger planes to 26 destinations,
5 of which have TK Cargo organizations locally.
On international flights, there are 45 destination
points in Europe, 2in the USA, 6 in Africa, 10 in
the Middle East, 13 in Middle Asia and the Far East.
All connections between the departure and arrival
points are carried out either by air or by land
transport.
A300 TK Cargo aircraft each with a capacity of 40
tons are scheduled to fly from Istanbul to Maastricht
three days a week, and from Istanbul to Nurnberg
one day a week. TK Cargo also offers you alternative
options like renting additional cargo space. In
addition special charter flights can be arranged
in line with your demand.

Turkish Airlines is aware of the importance of keeping
every aircraft in the air.
Years of accumulated experience and know-how together
with TK's modern facilities, workshops and advanced
computerized systems guarantee that all aspects
of periodic maintenance, scheduled or non-scheduled,
light as well as heavy overhauls on airframes, engines
and other components are accomplished efficiently
and effectively in accordance with FAA, JAR and
Turkish CAA standards.
The maintenance and overhaul of ultra-sensitive
equipment on modern aircraft demand high precision.
The technicians who carry out this work are outstanding
certified workers.
Their professionalism, the advanced technology which
they have at their disposal and the complete range
of components and spare parts support allow TK to
give its customers guaranteed high quality technical
services with minimum turn-around times. TK offers
you the advantage of using an integrated maintenance
and overhaul complex together with comprehensive
services at incomparable rates. Working with TK
means achieving outstanding efficiency and utmost
cost-effectiveness.
TRAINING |
"The Department of Flight Training and Standards"
and "The Department of Training" are the
two basic units responsible for training in Turkish
Airlines. You may obtain detailed information about
these units under the headings "Flight Training"
and "Ground Training" in the "Training"
section.
Turkish Airlines Flight Training Center consists
of three buildings with an area of approximately
15,600 m2 located within the complex of Ataturk
Airport. At the center cockpit and cabin personnel
are provided with the required training by expert
trainers in line with the standards of International
Civil Aviation. Training can basically be grouped
as Initial, Conversion, Difference, Upgrade, Advanced
and Recurrent Training.
Simulator and Computer Based Training together with
Cabin Service Trainer and Emergency Evacuation Trainer
programs provided by THY not only address airlines
within co-partnerships, but also other airlines
which can be categorized into two groups: National
airlines such as Pegasus, Air Anatolia, KTHY, Bilgin
Airlines, Air Rose, Air Alfa, Euro Sun, Sun Express,
Onur Air and international airlines such as Cross
Air (Swiss), Air Zena, Uzbekistan Airlines, Aegean
Airlines, Air Kazakhstan and Braathens. Turkey's
sole flight training center, that of TK, certified
by Type Rating Training Organization (TRTO) offers
training in line with the standards of JAR-FCL.
The Ground Training Center at Turkish Airlines provides
training for its staff involved in commercial, cargo
and handling activities as well as the technical
team in the hangar. It also conducts special courses
for managers, quality-control teams and the staff
at the front desk. The training is extended not
only to Turkish Airlines staff, but also to travel
agents, staff from other airlines and universities
offering courses related to aviation. The importance
given to quality is certified by the ISO 9001 Quality
Assurance Certificate awarded by RWTUV to the Ground
Training Center in June 98. The Ground Training
Center has been applying ISO 9001 procedures ever
since. The Ground Training Center can accommodate
up to 800 people with 40 classrooms and a 120 seat
conference room. Training is provided by a total
of 62 instructors, managers and auxiliary staff
for 9000 participants.

The subjects that affect flight safety, either directly
or directly, such as carriage of PED (Portable Electronic
Devices), Dangerous Goods, Pets, Children Travellers,
Pregnant Passengers, Disabled/Sick Passengers are

History
Our department was founded in 1974 as Flight Safety
Directorate with direct access to the General Manager.
In November 1999 the Directorate of Quality Assurance
was established in compliance with JAA regulations
and JAR-OPS. Finally in the last quarter of 2000
the name of the department was changed to the Directorate
of Flight Safety and Quality Assurance.

Flight Safety is the first consideration of Turkish
Airlines. Flight Safety within our scope of responsibility
covers Flight Operations , Flight Training and Standards
,Cabin, Maintenance Department, Ground Operations,
Technical Training, Emergency Response Group and
Flight/Maintenance/Ground Safety Managements.
The four main objectives of the Directorate of Flight
Safety and Quality Assurance are :
. Improving Safety in Flight and Ground Operations
. Achieving and maintaining Risk Awareness by all
persons involved in Flight and Ground operations
. Taking corrective action for deficiencies and
irregularities,
. Sharing experience acquired from safety events
by evaluation and promulgation of information related
to accidents and incidents.
Most importantly, we are fully aware of our responsibility
regarding the safety of the travelling public. Their
interest in air safety and confidence in commercial
air transportation are best served when the safety
standards of Turkish Airlines meet international
