The development of the
loan portfolio of DKIB is influenced by changes
in economies of both Kyrgyzstan and Turkey, showing
decrease of the loan portfolio from KGS 2.7 million
at the year-end of 2000 to KGS 2 million in 2001.
The decrease mainly reflects credit risk cautiousness
and conservative policy of the bank and decreased
investment appetite of the major Turkish corporate
companies in Kyrgyzstan.
DKIB is traditionally active in securities market.
Being the first foreign bank started its operations
in Kyrgyzstan, we continued these activities during
the year 2001 by investing into T-Bills and the
NBKR's notes. As of December 31, 2001 the securities
portfolio was KGS 6.2 million. The active Treasury
approach to promotion of enhanced customer products
helps establishing contacts with new counterparts
in interbank market and increase the volume of business
with existing ones.
Due to successful operations for the last five years
DKIB built up a solid customers base and the total
number of both individual and corporate customers
as of December 31, 2001 reached 4.217, including

industrial companies, joint ventures, Embassies,
IFI's international projects and public institutions,
etc. By the end of 2001 deposit base totaled 461.4
million soms (about $9,6 mm), which is by 62% more
in comparison with the previous year. Customer deposits
comprised 77 percent of the total liabilities and

Net Profit was KGS 1,753 thousand as of the end
of the year 2001. Commission and fee-based income
remained the major component of the Bank's profit,
reaching KGS 53 million.

direct correspondent relations with leading commercial
banks, adding new banking relationships to the
existing ones. DKIB increased its correspondent
network, activated business and established correspondent
relationship with 40 banks, opened correspondent
accounts with 10 banks.
Retail banking remains one of the major activities
of the Bank. At the current stage DKIB is strongly
engaged into customers account services, inter-bank
foreign exchange market, extension of commercial
loans to reliable corporate clients, providing
of trade finance product. The bank further targeted
its active involvement into and expansion of "retail
banking", small and medium financing, which
will consist of the package of banking services
and products, including attraction of individual
