LUSAKA
Lusaka is Zambia’s capital city, and it is, therefore,
the country’s busiest city. Lusaka offers a number of
entertainment options for the business traveller.

not only come to see the crocodiles and snakes, but
also to grab a beer or a bite to eat.

The Lilayi Game Reserve houses this elephant
nursery, which rescues and rehabilitates orphaned
elephants before releasing them back into the wild. It
is open daily from 1130-1300.

This park rehabilitates animals for reentry into
the wild. It features a wide variety of animals.
From cheetahs and lions all the way to jackals
and baboons, there are a number of wild animals
roaming the park. Feeding time is at 2pm from Friday
to Sunday.

There are four major markets of interest in Lusaka:
• Lusaka City Market: Locals go to this market for
bargains. It hosts over 400 stalls. While it may
seem quite chaotic, tourists do not often get
hassled.
• Soweto Market: This is a more functional market
than the City market, yet still worth the visit.
• Sunday Craft Market: This is located in the parking
lot of the Arcades Shopping Center, and it is a
great place for gifts and crafts.
• Northmead Market: This is the perfect place to
stock up on souvenirs. There are also a number
of small markets, restaurants, and fresh food stalls
to be enjoyed.

The Monkey Pools are located on the Mukamunya
Estate at the source of the Mukamunya River. The
grounds are quite beautiful, and they make an
excellent place to picnic.

Kapotwe. It features some of the best contemporary
Zambian and general African art.
National
Museum

The National Museum is currently undergoing
renovations; however, one can still visit and see
a hodgepodge of cultural, ethnographic, and
archaeological artifacts. There are quite interesting
displays related to witchcraft and initiation
ceremonies as well. The lower levels contain
contemporary Zambian paintings and sculptures.
