"THE ROAD TO FOLLOW"

Faithful to the sectoral policy initiated by the Minister of Transport, Mr. Joseph Abanda, Cameroon gives itself the means " of using as well as possible the complementarily of the multi-universal railroad –land –maritime transport " . As for the Cameroon railroad, the old REGIFERCAM was granted in favor of Camrail-Comazar in 1999. Concerning the harbor sector, this latter was completely restructured and a national harbor Authority was established in 2000 of which prerogatives are to make the ports more effective and competitive. A One Stop shop of Foreign Trade Operations (GUCE) was set up in July 1999 at the Port authority of Douala. The GUCE gathers, in a single physical place, the whole of the essential services for the customs clearance procedures and allows a reduction of the deadlines and costs of the goods passage." the Port of Douala is considered as the starting point of the highway penetrating Cameroon's economy as well as the sub-region ", according to Mr. Alfonse Siyam Siwe, General manager of the Port of Douala.
In forecast of a 35% rise of the traffic in the five next years, the Port of Douala has been equipped with a new tugboat and is modernizing its installations. As for the air transport, the sector is in the middle of its liberalization. Several airlines companies were created and within a year from now, the national company Cameroon Airlines (CAMAIR), today in then middle of its reorganization, will be yielded to private operators. Whereas the air traffic records a growth rate of 7.5% these two last years, Mr. Modou Khaya, general manager of the Airports of Cameroon (ADC) and in charge of the management of the seven most significant airports of the country reveals: " taking into account the strong capacity of reception of our airports, we could easily support a higher traffic as well as a much more significant flow of tourists ". It is accordingly and in order to guarantee an optimum level of safety of the flights as well as the safety within the airports that the ADC modernizes the installations being used for the international civil aviation.
