Education & Healthcare
The hospital is integrated into the Zambian Health
Service, but it also relies on fund-raising and do-
nations from abroad to maintain its enviable stan-
dards of care.
Accidents and injuries are common and account
for the largest proportion of admissions, with Ma-
laria and HIV/AIDS following close behind. There
are around 22,608 admissions a year (62 per day),
reaching a peaN during the malaria season (Febru-
ary to April), when an average of 30 children are
admitted every day.
The General Outpatient Department is the main
point of access to the hospital’s services for most
patients. 93,038 people are seen and treated annu-
ally (on average, 255 per day). There are specialist
clinics in Gynecology, General Surgery, Medicine
3ediatrics, and T%. The ³Sand\ /ogie´ +,9 $,'S

The Vision of University Teaching Hospital (UTH)
is “to be the center of excellency for health care in
the country and the region by providing innovative
treatment interventions through ongoing research.”
The the hospital directs it efforts towards research,
improving general medical services and function-
ing as a tertiary health care institution. While rec-
ognizing that tertiary care services are highly spe-
cialized and expensive to provide, the challenge for
the institution has been to reduce the expense of
treatment abroad by offering such services locally.
Over a period of time, the institution has built ca-
pacity in various areas of specialization such as
that of cardiology.

Victoria Hospital is a private hospital. Victoria Hos-
pital is a recognized name in the field in Zambia.
From ver\ modest beginnings at a small outpatient
clinic in the central business district of Lusaka,
Victoria Hospital has grown to be one of the most
sought after private medical institutions in Zambia.
The quest to ever-improve its services has led to
the establishment of a new multi-specialty facil-
ity in the Kalundu area of Lusaka. This facility will
have over 30 beds for admission, a well-equipped
laboratory, a high care unit for adults and pediat-
ric patients, two operating theaters, and a host of
other services.
