Zambeef Products Pld. is one of the largest integrat-
ed agri-businesses in Zambia. The group is princi-
pally involved in the production, processing, distribu-
tion, and retailing of beef, chicken, pork, milk, dairy
products, eggs, edible oils, stock feed, and flour. The
Group also has large row cropping operations. The
group is also in the process of rolling out its West
Africa expansion in Nigeria and Ghana, and it is de-
veloping a palm project in Zambia.
Since its incorporation as a small-scale start-up busi-
ness, Zambeef has, through both organic growth
and acquisitions, become one of Zambia’s largest
agri-businesses with annual revenues of approxi-
mately 275 million USD, currently employing over
5,800 staff.
In June 2011, Zambeef successfully concluded its
dual listing on the Alternative Investment Market of
the London Stock Exchange. The Banker magazine
named Zambeef’s 55 million USD listing in London
as 2012’s “Deal of the Year” in Africa for equities.
The magazine commended the landmark listing for
Zambeef, saying the company’s initial public offering
(IPO) on London’s Alternative Investments Market in
June 2011 was significant in many ways. “It marked
the first time a company from the southern African
country had listed internationally and was one of the
few overseas African IPOs from outside the natural
resources sector.”

The development of large-scale “exotic” plantations
commenced in 1965 in the Copperbelt by Industrial
Plantations Division (IPD). The project was facilitat-
ed by funding, which was borrowed by the Zambian
Government from the World Bank and International
Development Agency (IDA) in 1968. The term “exot-
ic” refers to the fast growing species of trees, which
were not naturally growing in the Zambian environ-
ment such as the pine and eucalyptus trees.
